Contract for 600 TPD Integrated Waste Project in Raipur, India-Waste Management World (04092012)

Kivar Environ signs agreement with Raipur Municipal Corporation for Integrated Municipal Solid Waste Management Project in Raipur

Kivar Environ, part of a diversified Kivar Group, today signed a Concession Agreement with Raipur Municipal Corporation for the implementation of Integrated City Sanitation and Municipal Solid Waste Management Project in Raipur. A truly integrated scheme, this Design, Build, Operated, Finance and Transfer project is based on Public Private Partnership (PPP) model.

The agreement was signed by Mr. Subash Menon, Chairman, Kivar Group, Mr. Srinivasan SK, Director, RWMPL (Raipur Waste Management Pvt. Ltd) and Mr. Taran Sinha, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, Raipur (CG) at the latter’s office.

Kivar Environ has formed a special purpose vehicle named Raipur Waste Management Private Limited (RWMPL) for implementing the Integrated City Sanitation and Municipal Solid Waste Management Project. The project will be capable of handling approx. 600 tons per day of municipal solid waste mounting @ 3% per annum.

The Scope of Services of RWMPL in the first phase includes:

·         City Sanitation comprising street sweeping, cleaning of drains, public toilets, ponds & Government office premises

·         Primary and Secondary collection of waste including door-to-door collection

·         Secondary transportation of waste to transfer stations & processing facility

·         Comprehensive IEC activities covering all strata of the society for effective environment management

In the second phase it will be undertaking:

·         EIA & Preliminary investigations at the processing and disposal facility site

·         Design, Engineering, Construction, Operation & Maintenance of waste processing facility with advanced technology

·         Design, Engineering, Construction, Operation & Maintenance of scientifically engineered sanitary landfill facility

·         Post closure monitoring of landfill

The operations will also involve sustained Information, Education & Communication (IEC) drive wherein there will be door-to-door awareness and other educational drive on constituents of waste, segregation and benefits of handling waste effectively. 

Sense of ownership and cooperation of the local community in the process is very vital and success can only be achieved with full participation of the public. To garner such participation, RWMPL will initiate various IEC campaigns amongst the different segments of people “households and commercial establishments” enlightening them about waste segregation at source and also establishing connect to the ecological impact that they are making by way of being involved in the waste management initiative. The target groups will be briefed on segregation of waste, temporary storage of waste and also process for proper disposal of waste – like segregating wet waste from plastic and other wastes, handing over the degradable and non-degradable waste to the community workforce separately.

Speaking on this occasion, Mr. Subash Menon, Chairman, Kivar Group, said Integrated Solid Waste Management (ISWM) is a comprehensive waste prevention, recycling, composting, and disposal program. An effective ISWM system considers how to prevent, recycle, and manage solid waste in ways that most effectively protect health and the environment and Kivar is committed to achieve this vision.

As per the concession agreement, the Collection and Transportation of Municipal Solid Waste will start within six (6) months from the date of signing of the concession agreement.
